Angela Canas, PhD, ABPP, NCSP

Licensed Psychologist, Director of Clinical Services

Dr. Canas is a board-certified Spanish-bilingual pediatric neuropsychologist specializing in the assessment of children, adolescents, and young adults with an array of developmental and neurological conditions. Dr. Canas has extensive experience with complex medical populations including neurofibromatosis, congenital heart disease, epilepsy, cancer, and traumatic brain injury/concussion, as well as over 15 years of experience working in the field of psychology across a variety of contexts including the academic medical, educational, and nonprofit settings. Dr. Canas is Board Certified in Clinical Neuropsychology by the American Board of Professional Psychology and the American Board of Clinical Neuropsychology, holds a National Certification in School Psychology, and is dually licensed in Texas as a psychologist and a professional counselor. Dr. Canas leverages her diverse training and experience in counseling psychology, school psychology, and neuropsychology to fortify her relationships with families, provide tailored assessments and individualized treatment recommendations, and advocate for educational supports and services. Her goal is to provide each family with an understanding of their child’s neuropsychological strengths and weaknesses, as well as practical recommendations aimed at informing care and improving everyday functioning.

Dr. Canas was educated in a private school setting and is a member of the St. Monica Catholic School and Ursuline Academy of Dallas communities. She earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Southern Methodist University, as well as a master’s degree in counseling psychology and a doctoral degree in school psychology from Texas Woman’s University. She completed an APA-accredited pre-doctoral internship in school psychology through the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center/School Psychology Internship Consortium and a two-year post-doctoral fellowship in pediatric neuropsychology through the University of Colorado School of Medicine/Children’s Hospital Colorado. Dr. Canas previously served on the Board of Directors of the Hispanic Neuropsychological Society and remains actively involved in various professional organizations and committees, research endeavors, and the supervision of trainees. Dr. Canas is published in the areas of Spanish-bilingual assessment, NF1/NF2-Related Schwannomatosis, and congenital heart disease.

Dr. Canas lives in Dallas with her husband, daughter, and pets (Pete and Gracie). She enjoys traveling abroad, lakefront getaways, exploring neighborhood events and restaurants with her family, and watching an array of movies and shows.
